Class was over and has been empty long before he could even realize. The boy blinks, not like one could see with his bangs, and looks up at the jovial call. He just bottles them up and lay low, when at the same time, yearning for the warmth of the sun. He is also there, unable to channel his frustrations outward, unable to talk about his insecurities, unable to direct all the discomfort and the shame. It's probably what made him an outcast- nobody wants to be near someone that always seems to know what you're thinking about.īut Morino was unable to direct those feelings outward, so she'd directed them at herself. Kids pulling tantrums because of a lost ball, a refused permission to go out or other things not going like they'd have liked is a common occurrence that seems harmless at first, but Kageno has trained his eyes to see past the deceit and uncover the real intention behind someone's action. People in the latter group could let their feelings out just by breaking furniture or the like. Some people encase their emotions by playing or exercising, whereas others calm their emotions by breaking things. Nothing to ugly as to not attract the teacher's attention, but enough for him to feel self-conscious. When kids back at elementary school got fed up with him, they tended to pull his hair and make him trip in class. But when emotions get strong, humans have to do something. Kageno particularly likes this passage of Goth.

The cycle of forever not finding a reason is the appeal of all horror stories. Humans are despicable by nature and trying to find reasons to it is a lost cause. It gives him reasons for humans' foul behaviour- or perhaps, gives him no reason for it. Kageno loves to dive in each character's mind, because it gives a great hindsight of the people around him. Each one of them gives a wink of the human's darkest desires, the needs that they religiously keep away from society's eyes for fear of being cast out. Kageno likes how the characters are developed the most. You find yourself completely immersed in the horrifying world of gore, strange and eerie and mystifying. But, the more you read and re-read it, the more the book gains depth. He does find Goth a bit eerie, like all the horror stories he has read before, but he also loves Otsuichi's writing style.Īt first glance, there seems to be no structure, format nor exposition, just a pit of darkness, suicide, and guilt. Kageno can't fault them for thinking that. You'd think that, for someone claiming that he wants to get out of the shadows, walking around with books renowned for being so creepy would be a big no-no. People would find it cliché and completely in-character for Kageno to fancy books as dark as Goth. But Morino was unable to direct those feelings outward, so she'd directed them at herself.
